Bulk density is a useful property of refractory bricks, such as fused cast AZS block, zircon brick, magnesia brick, corundum block, silica brick, fire clay bricks and so on. Bulk density reflects the function for structure of blocks. Simply put, bulk density is that the weight of refractory bricks divided by the total volume. It is an indicator of weight for unit volume bricks. The weight can be weighed in the air directly; volume is a measure of the amount of space that an object takes up.
True density refers to the actual weight of solid refractory bricks of unit volume under the absolute dense state, which means the density after removing the void between particles.
The mainly difference between bulk density and true density is that: true density does not contain the volume of air, however, bulk density contains the volume of air. True density can’t show the macro organizational structure of refectory bricks, but its size can reflect the purity of raw materials, the degree of sintering and the properties of the products.
