The Chemical Compostion Of Corundum Brick

Corundum refractory is als called alumina refractory, containing more than 90% Al2O3, with corundum as the main crystal phase. Fused corundum clinkers can be divided into white and gray corundum. Corundum products can be divided into fused gray and fused white corundum brick. 

The main composition of corundum is Al2O3. There are three different homogeneous phases for Al2O3: α-Al2O3,β- Al2O3 and Y-Al2O3. Corundum ranks No. 9 in the Mohs hardness table, with a specific gravity of 4.00 and a hexagonal column crystalline structure. Since it is second only to diamond and much cheaper than diamond, it becomes a dvanced abrasive material for sandpaper and grinding tools and bearing materials for fine mechanics. Corundum containing chrome is red, commonly known as ruby; blue or colorless corundum is generally classified into sapphire. 

 

Corundum is also used to produce refractory bricks. corundum brick has good mechanical strength, high hardness and good resistance to thermal shock, wear, oxidization and corrosion.
